The Crackdown on Illegal Institutions
This move comes after a directive from President Bola Tinubu, who called on the National Universities Commission (NUC), the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), and the NCCE to take decisive action against "certificate millers." These are institutions that operate without proper authorization, often offering unaccredited degrees and diplomas.
The NCCE's discovery was part of a larger nationwide crackdown. In a statement, the commission also mentioned that it had conducted a personnel and financial audit of all 21 federal colleges of education.
President Tinubu emphasized that the administration is working to integrate these various educational agencies to improve quality and ensure that unaccredited institutions, both within and outside the country, cannot operate in Nigeria's educational system. The goal is to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the country's academic qualifications.
